THE AUSTRALIAN CHAMBER CHOIR
BACH IN THE CASTLE OF HEAVEN
This program contrasts three of Bach’s masterpieces with a gem by Johann Michael Bach (JS’s father-in-law) and famous Latin Motets from other times and places. Gregorio Allegri’s famous Miserere is performed alongside one of the most difficult pieces in the motet repertoire – Messiaen’s O sacrum convivium, which holds a mystery all its own. Three Latin Motets by Herbert Howells represent a pinnacle of early 20th century English choral music.
