St. Patrick’s Cathedral ChoirDirector: Dr Daryl Barclay; Organist: Mr Dion Henman
A concert of sacred choral and organ classics from Palestrina to Rutter
The long tradition of choral music at St Patrick’s Cathedral goes back to the middle of the 19th Century. However, the present Cathedral Choir was founded in 1939, when the Vienna Mozart Boys Choir became stranded in Australia at the outbreak of war. Some 59 years later, in 1996, St Kevin’s College entered into a special partnership with the Cathedral, welcoming scholarship winners into the College and providing them with their formal schooling from Year 5 to Year 12. 2015 marks the 20th anniversary of a very fruitful and creative partnership. The Choir can be heard every Sunday at the 11.00 am Solemn Mass in the Cathedral, at weddings and ordinations, as well as in a number of concerts each year.
